Hi Michel. Can you introduce yourself to our readers and tell us how you came to join the Astek Group?
The adventure started in 2015, when Astek Group acquired the company I was working for: Via Consultants, specialists in SAP and business management.
Précédemment, le Groupe Astek avait créé une entité canadienne, Astek Québec. Nous avons fait évoluer ces deux sociétés parallèlement avant de les fusionner en janvier 2020 pour ne former plus qu’un : Astek Canada
Depuis le rachat, nous avons étendu notre périmètre et avons su profiter de nos réseaux mutuels pour accroître considérablement nos équipes.
Astek has had a successful start in Canada. Can you tell us more?
Quebec is facing a major shortage of skilled labour in the tech industries. However, Montreal is positioned as a hub in this sector in North America. According to Montreal International, the city saw a 9.1% growth in high-tech jobs between 2016 and 2018—the strongest in Canada and the United States.
Le fait d’exiger la maîtrise de la langue française à l’embauche est un défi de taille, surtout lorsqu’il s’agit de pourvoir les innombrables postes offerts dans les domaines techniques.
Ainsi, nous avons su nous réinventer pour rechercher et intégrer des candidats qualifiés en travaillant notamment sur la mobilité internationale. Chaque année, nous sommes de passage dans les bureaux d’Astek France, et venons à la rencontre de candidats. Nous rencontrons ainsi des salariés Astek ayant une volonté de mobilité, et des candidats – notamment lors de nos participations aux Journées Québec – souhaitant rejoindre l’aventure Astek.
En début d’année 2021, nous avons lancé le PROJET 50, qui consiste à embaucher à l’international 50 spécialistes de l’IT.
What are your ambitions in the short and medium-term?
The group acquired the Canadian company Meritek in late 2020. This was the company that we considered closest to us in terms of work ethic and values. I continue to be impressed by the energy of both companies and our willingness to work together.
Une nouvelle dynamique a également été annoncée en décembre 2020 avec l’acquisition d’Ineat. Nous avons donc été rejoint par une équipe jeune et dynamique avec qui nous travaillons pour continuer d’accroître notre rayonnement.
Today, we have over 500 Astek collaborators in Canada. I’m confident that, through organic growth, we’ll be able to reach 550 collaborators by the end of 2022. It’s hard to predict future growth, but I’m quite optimistic given the dynamic state of the market and the amazing teams we have in place. And I’m not doing a selling job here; I just really believe that we have the best team in Quebec. I feel strongly that we could even reach the impressive number of 800 collaborators in the next three years. That doesn’t even take into account the growth strategies of Jean-Luc Bernard and Julie Gavaldon, which could propel us to new heights. Of course, our objective isn’t just to grow and grow… we want to develop and evolve as a company in order to offer our teams many stimulating projects.
